GCFO Blog 8: Winter Hair Care Tips & Tricks

How’s your hair doing this month? Brisbane winters may not be the most extreme, but our hair still feels it. Cool, dry weather with a lack of humidity makes hair prone to splitting and breaking, so with the change in season, it’s imperative to change your hair care regime.Luckily we have a few tips and tricks to maintaining healthy hair all winter long.

Damage control

Hair that’s dry and brittle needs a huge influx of moisture to make up for the lack of it in the air. Swap to a shampoo and conditioner for dry hair with rich, deep conditioning ingredients including oils (pumpkin seed oil and Moroccan argan oil are good ones). A weekly treatment or mask will do wonders, especially if you have coloured hair which is prone to fading in winter (looking at you, redheads!). Another option is to try and cut back on washes. When you wash your hair on a daily basis, your natural oils don’t get the chance to build up which can exacerbate the dryness. For those with naturally oily hair, consider using a dry shampoo between washes – it can make a huge difference.

Go easy on the heat

We all love a hot shower on a cold winters’ morning but unfortunately, your hair doesn’t. Along with drying out the strands it can damage and dehydrate your scalp as well, making your hair brittle and weak. Now let’s talk about those straightening irons. We tend to heat-style more in winter, at a time when our hair is begging for moisture. Try turning down the heat on your dryer or iron, or gently towel-dry when possible. Gentle is the key word here – a good scrub with a towel will speed up the drying process but will damage the hair cuticles. A de-frizzing product prior to styling can help.

Get regular haircuts

Whether your hair is long or short, it’s still prone to split ends and brittle tips. Regular trips to the hairdresser for a trim will ensure your hair is kept in tip-top condition and reduce the risk of breakage.

Final tips

Healthy hair starts from the inside, so stay hydrated with plenty of water, eat fresh and nourishing foods, and get outdoors to exercise. But we all need a little help in the product department, so visit your closest Golden Circle Factory Outlet in Morayfield or Capalaba for our huge array of quality shampoos, conditioners and treatments.  www.gcfo.com.au
