GCFO Blog 29: 5 Tips for a Terrifyingly Good Halloween Night In

If 2020 has taught us anything, it’s that staying in is the new going out, and Halloween is
no exception. The spookiest of all holidays is the perfect opportunity to curl up on the
couch (snacks in hand!) and get ridiculously cosy. We’ve put together this list of our five
best tips to make sure your Halloween-from-home bash is your best night in yet.

1. Movies
Halloween is just not complete without spooky movies. Our best tip is to know your
audience. If your kids are tuning in, include titles like Casper, Coraline, The Nightmare
Before Christmas or Hotel Transylvania. If it’s an adult event, you can break out the
classic horrors like A Nightmare on Elm Street, Evil Dead, Scream or The Shining.

2. Snacks
Go themed! With a little bit of food dye, icing and some creativity, you can transform
your regular snacks into gruesome (yet delicious) Halloween fare. An easy one - wrap a
tissue around a lollipop and secure with a thin ribbon to create ghost pops! Use a marker
to draw on the faces. Or, get back to baking! Use cookie cutters to create fun
Halloween-shaped snacks.

3. Drinks
Pair the ultimate snacks with the perfect punch. Create a blood-red beverage by
combining 500ml of cranberry juice, 1.5L of lemonade, the juice of 3 limes and a handful
of gummy worms. Combine the liquid ingredients and then decorate with worms over
the edge of the bowl. Serve in your finest cocktail glasses. Remember to add a splash of
gin for an adult version.

4. Costumes
Just because you’re staying in, doesn’t mean you can’t get dressed up. Getting in
costume will really help you channel the Halloween spirit. For a minimal effort look, you
could always try the quarantine couch potato. Tracksuit pants and slippers are
encouraged.

5. Decorations
To complete your Halloween extravaganza, you’ll need decorations. Our suggestion is to
keep it simple. Draw and cut cardboard shapes - anything from bats, to ghosts to
pumpkins. Candles and pumpkins will also help create a festive scene.
