GCFO Blog 32: Recovering from 2020’s Hangover

Now that the Christmas leftovers have well and truly been cleared out of your fridge it’s time
to kick off the new year. If you’re anything like us, you’ve been stuffing your face for weeks,
taking shelter from the summer storms and blistering heat, and procrastinating at home.
Now’s the time to get real – we DO NOT want a repeat of 2020! Here’s some helpful ways to
set yourself up for success in 2021.

Get Fit!
Look, this one is on everyone’s new year’s resolution list to some degree. By this, we don’t
necessarily mean picking up a gym membership, especially if this isn’t your thing, but start
with something small and get into a routine – even if it’s just once a week. Heading on a short
walk is a great start. One of our favourites is going for a jog or run. Pick a beautiful scenic spot
and go for it! It’s super measurable, easy to set goals for, and highly addictive. Just get a
playlist ready and some good shoes and you’ll be ready to go! If running isn’t your thing, try
enrolling in a social sport. Think soccer, cricket, netball, or squash.

Stay Mentally Active
Equally as important as staying physically healthy, your mental health needs to be one of
your top priorities for the year! Beyond Blue report that almost 15% of Aussies will experience
depression in their life, and one in four people will go through an anxiety-related condition.
These figures are not to be underestimated. There are several things you can do to improve
your mental health in 2021. Staying active and eating healthy are two things that will help
you out immensely. Mental health professionals also suggest having open and honest chats
with yourself and others, and seeking professional help if you do find yourself struggling. If
you know someone who is battling a mental illness, or have a suspicion that someone may
be, help them out – start the conversation and make a difference in someone’s life today. If
you or someone you know is suffering from mental illness, you can also reach out to Beyond
Blue on 1300 224 636 to speak to a professional 24/7.

Prep Your Meals
Even if you’re not the world’s best chef, just having a plan for your meals for the week will
help you out heaps! The benefits of meal prepping are huge; it saves you time and money, it
stops that awkward after work ‘what’s for dinner?’ dialogue, and it helps give you a second
perspective on your diet. From our experience, putting aside a couple of hours on a Sunday
always works best. Put your favourite tunes on and make the meal prep fun. We’ve got a ton
of ingredients and cheap ways to help you with your meal prep in-store. Pop into our
Morayfield or Capalaba stores to really get a headstart on your meal planning!

There you have it, all the ingredients to a perfect year! Now all that’s left to do is pick yourself
up off of the couch and make 2021 your year!
