GCFO Blog 33: Brisbane's Hot Weather Survival Guide

Who doesn’t love a classic 40 degree Queensland day? Trick question … nobody loves them.

For sunshine state locals, a blistering hot day is almost inescapable and there’s almost
nothing you can do about it. Unless, of course, you don’t mind blowing out the electricity bill
to create your very own microclimate, setting the A/C to a frosty 18 degrees.

Here are a few of our favourite things to do to help get you through the last few months of our sweltering hot
days.

Head to a cricket match
It may not get you out of the heat, but you’ll have such a great time you’ll likely forget all
about it. Lucky for us the cricket calendar is packed this time of year with rep cricket and 20
over matches aplenty! Even if you’re not the biggest cricket fan, we’d recommend heading
out to a game for a couple of hours – you won’t regret it!

Can’t make it? Head to your local
watering hole to watch it on the big screen! Chances are they’ll have the A/C blaring and
plenty of cold drinks flowing.

Take a dip
Living in sunny Queensland, there’s really not too many excuses to not dip your toes in the
water. We’ve got plenty of beautiful beaches, waterfalls, and reservoirs perfect for this
weather!

North of Brisbane, Redcliffe is absolutely stunning this time of year with beautiful
beaches just about everywhere you look.

South of Brisbane, you can’t go past Wynnum beach.

If sand’s not your thing, Enoggera reservoir is brilliant, otherwise, Kondalilla falls on the
Sunny Coast, or Cedar Creek at Tamborine are perfect little swimming holes (you’ll just want
to get there early)!

Get active!
Don’t let the heat stop you from having fun! We recommend heading out to a local ice
skating rink – the cool climate inside and the overall hilariousness of watching a few of your
friends stack a couple of times is worth the price of admission alone.

Watersports like water skiing and wakeboarding are also a tonne of fun and you don’t need a boat to do it. Carbrook,
in the city’s south, and Bli Bli, up north, are home to two of Brisbane’s best cable skiing parks.
If you’ve never done it before, there’s no need to worry – they’ve got instructors and short
courses to help you out every step of the way.

Stay Home
Even if you don’t have air conditioning at home, there’s still plenty you can do to stay cool this
summer. A family water fight, washing the car, or, if you’re lucky enough to own or live near
one, chilling by the pool will get you by just fine.

If you are staying home, having the fridge stocked with cold drinks and ice cream is an absolute must (this is where we come in). We’ve
got freezers filled to the brim with some of the tastiest ice creams at crazy low prices,
meaning you won’t have to go without! Pop by and have a look! We have stores at both
Capalaba and Morayfield stocked with all your favourite brands.

If you are getting outdoors this time of year be sure to stay sun safe! Remember to slip, slop,
slap, seek shade, and slide on some sunnies where possible – the sun is super unforgiving this
time of year.
