Let’s be honest, there are two types of people in this world; those who are really organised and buy presents in advance and those who leave their gift buying until the last minute! If you fall into the latter category then we are here to help you change your ways in time for Mother’s Day. With just under two weeks to go until we spoil mum on her special day, we’re giving you a helping hand with gift ideas that are a little bit more inventive than flowers. Now, don’t get us wrong; we LOVE being on the receiving end of a beautiful bunch of blooms, however, why not surprise the leading lady of the house with something unexpected:

A well-deserved pamper session

If anyone deserves some pampering, it’s mum! Whether you choose to gift her a voucher from your local beauty salon or buy some beautiful soaps and creams so she can use them whenever she wants, it’s always a great idea to help those close to us take some time out to recharge. Mum’s especially are known to put the needs of the family before their own so Mother’s Day is the perfect time to give them a little nudge to stop and relax. If you really want to make sure mum puts her feet up, while she’s having her beauty treatment why don’t you put a load of washing on or even hang out the clothes so she can truly have a break from chores for the day (even that in itself could be classified as a pamper session!).

Perfume

Is there anything better than a spritz of your favourite perfume? Perfume is a great idea for a gift as it’s something that more often than not people don’t tend to buy for themselves, but love receiving.  Not just a beautiful smell, perfume can instantly enhance one’s mood and can also trigger beautiful past memories if it is a scent that has been used over the years. Our tip is to always go with one that mum has tried and tested as perfumes are definitely a very personal present and can smell different on different people so it’s best to always go with the one you know your mum loves (plus she’ll always remember it as the present she received on Mother’s Day!).

Hand cream

Mother’s Day or not, we all could use some hand cream after all the handwashing we’ve done over the past year! Hand cream is a seriously underrated present and again is something that mum probably wouldn’t buy for herself but deeply welcomes when given as a gift. A luxurious hand cream doesn’t have to be expensive, just look for ones that are hydrating, moisturising and smell beautiful. Chemists stock some really budget-friendly products that leave your skin feeling soft, silky and supple and in sizes too that are handbag compatible (always important for mum!). Hey, while you’re there, why not get a tube for yourself!

Breakfast in bed voucher

This is one of our go-to gifts and it NEVER disappoints! Sure, making mum breakfast in bed is a given on Mother’s Day but as you’re serving up her eggs, toast and coffee, slip a little piece of paper on the tray that is a ‘breakfast in bed voucher’, meaning that mum can ‘cash’ it in at any time and get another breakfast in bed (because we all know mum deserve to have breakfast in bed more than once!). It’s a cute idea that is truly thoughtful and a sure-fire way to put a smile on mum’s face!

A funky shopping/tote bag

For the environmentally-conscious mum, she’ll adore a funky and colourful reusable shopping bag that she can take with her on weekly shops to Golden Circle Factory Outlet, of course! These types of bags come in SO handy so you know mum will get her wear out of them; our tip is to leave them in the boot of the car so mum is never left out in the cold when it comes to needing some shopping bags. Chocolates
